Lake Daylesford has recently been revamped with the overflow area rebuilt, a bridge across it and a new rowing berth area.  The lake is not natural but is actually man made, it was originally formed through gold diggings and then later used as a Chinese Market Garden with their own village, Joss House and store.   By the early In 1880's it was discussed to turn the area into a lake and construction began in 1927.

In the past the Daylesford Lake was lit up all the way around the path so a refreshing evening stroll could be enjoyed. A swimming area was provided with changing rooms - and it was a popular swimming destination. The Daylesford Lake now has a cafe, a children's playground, undercover barbeque with seating as well as paddleboats for hire on the weekends.   If you want to make some instant friends at the lake take a loaf of bread for the ducks and swans. They'll be your best buddies - at least until the bread runs out!

Swimming is not recommended these days due to extremely cold currents which can be very dangerous.  It's a gentle walk around the lake and with the beautiful surroundings you'll never tire of it. Views of the natural bush can be seen from one side while the other gives a view of the township beyond.  Around halfway you can venture down to the mineral water pumps and take a refreshing drink, although it is probably an acquired taste it's well worth a try. The walk around the lake takes approximately half an hour (an extra 15 minutes if you want to venture on the other side of the road bridge). Not great for the disabled due to uneven ground.
